Since 1995 the internet has be exploding into people's lives. In 2013, approximately 77% of the population of the US have internet access. This means over 245 million people use the internet on a regular basis.

An even faster growing number of the population are starting to access the internet using mobile devices. 143 million people are using mobile devices and of that 137 million are using smartphones. The growth of this group is up over 18% from 2012. This means there is just about half the people accessing the internet with mobile devices as with desktop and laptop computers. Mobile use continues to skyrocket. Soon, mobile users may outnumber computer users.

It is also estimated that there are 189 million online shoppers. Most of the new growth in this area will be by mobile and tablet users.

The move today is towards mobile. Soon we will use our mobile devices to purchase in retail establishments. Yet, today with the right design and technology, these devices can be used to shop and browse as people find themselves with a few minutes here and there. As online security continues to improve, more people are finding it easy, convenient, and safe to shop online.

All indicators show that online shopping will continue to grow. This makes a lot of sense for the consumer who is looking for variety and convenience. It also makes a lot of sense for the company, small or large, that can instantly, and for very little expense, enlarge their customer base to 189 million people and growing!
